What is a Thingamajig?
It is not a Do-hickey..
Remember when I mentioned that I’d written some Shel Silverstein-ish poems? Well, I did. Kinda sorta. I have no idea if this one follows any poem writing protocols or standards (I’ve never studied up on that stuff), but that doesn’t really matter if it resonates with the reader, right? Here is one that resonates with me.
THINGAMAJIG
What is a Thingamajig?
It is not a Do-hickey,
Or a Whatchamacallit.
“It is not real”, they tell me.
But I do not believe them.
I think I saw one today.
In a place I shouldn’t have been.
Please don’t tell my Mom, okay?
It was in a mango tree,
High up above my tree house.
It was weird, at least to me,
That Thingamajig’s snout.
And it had more than two eyes,
How many? I am not too sure.
Blue ones and green ones - no lie!
What does he need them all for?
Did he see me in my tree?
Way up here in my tree house?
And is he really hungry?
I’m as quiet as a mouse.
Maybe he eats little children,
With his sharp rows of long fangs,
Uses his eyes to find them,
While we play our little games
Sure hope he did not see me.
It just wouldn’t do to be munched.
I am way too young you see,
For the Thingamajig’s lunch
So I think I’ll sneak on home.
That is what I will do now.
‘Cuz Thingamajig’s up there,
Waiting for me to come out.
